Thanks for these revision posts. I'm great at plot and lousy at character. This really helped me round out my characters.

Developing characters is my favorite part of writing. I think that's when the story really comes to life. Thanks for the great list! I'm always collecting questions like this to put in my character folder for present and future books.

I've been thinking about this issue lately, and I've slowly come to the conclusion that I don't know nearly enough about one of my minor but important characters. I'll try using your list of questions to figure out more.

Is this series going to have a separate post about maintaining tension in a story? I for one would love to see one!

I read EW's Best of the Decade Article today. They called out Harry Potter as a an example of a great character because he is both ordinary and extraordinary at the same time. Maybe that's something to strive for? Thanks for another fab post.

You've offered great questions for knowing your character. I too studied theater in collage. I've never been so specific about how I know my character, but always try to get in the character's skin and ask; What's my motivation?

Does anyone else base their character loosely on someone they know and then have trouble moving away from the actual person so that the fictional character can evolve?
