New Site, New Video Content!

Woohoo! I made a video, y’all! I was so inspired by my Facebook Live experience with WriteOnCon, which was super-duper fun, that I’m going to start shooting some of my blog posts out behind the woodshed… Just kidding! I’m going to start shooting some of them as videos. (The WriteOnCon video will be available to repost here in March, and I’m really excited to share it with you. It’s an hourlong Q&A about the craft of revision!)

What You’ll See Here

In this video, I’m talking about the recent changes to the website, the impetus behind those, and my passion for creating this content and sharing it with you, my lovely readers.

Why I Recorded This

I really want to get my old readers and new visitors excited about the site, which has been around since 2009. My hope is it’ll be around for many years to come. I can’t do it without you, though!

What’s Next?

Help me keep a good thing going. If you have any questions that you’d like me to answer, in a blog post, or a video, please post them in the comments below. Let me know if you like the new website format, too!

  1. Wow, Mary, I’ve been reading the KidLit blog for more than a year now, but I think I learned more about you from this seven-minute video than I have from all of your posts! Seeing and hearing a person is so much different than reading their words alone…I say as an aspiring writer :p

May I make one suggestion for the new blog design, while the digital dust is settling? After I watched your video on the homepage, I wanted to comment on this post, but I had difficulty finding the form. Eventually I figured out that I have to click the title of the post, which didn’t look like a link until I hovered over it. You might get more comments from your readers if you put “X Comments” links at the tops or bottoms of your posts on the homepage.

    1. I enjoyed listening to you at Writeoncon and like this new video format for kidlit (wondering if the pugs will make an appearance from time to time : )

      1. The pugs will be fixtures, for sure. And to take to heart your comment email, I’ve made the comment function more obvious.

    2. Thanks so much for your feedback, T.K. I’ve added more obvious comment bubbles attached to each post that’ll take you right to the comment function. I’ve now heard the same thing from a few readers, so that means it has to change! 🙂

  2. I really enjoyed your presentation at WriteOnCon. The new site looks great!

I had trouble finding where to comment also, though.

    1. Thanks, Andrea! I’ve added comment bubbles to each post that’ll take you there in a more obvious way. When you hear the same feedback from more than one reader, it’s a sign!

  3. I’m a long time visitor to KidLit and have always appreciated your posts. Your video is great and look forward to many more.

    1. Thank you so very much, Karen!
