Thank you for the opportunity! I am very new at this writing thing (and maneuvering websites) and have no clue what MG stands for (middle grade??) — YA was easy to figure out, but I still am not sure what ages that includes. Could you please elaborate? My story is ripe for a series, but I am not sure it’s eligible for this contest.
Thanks for whatever information you can supply.

Mary, you are true to your word about having another contest. I will tweet about it, facebook it, and add it to the forum on querytracker. I also have it on my blog sidebar and I blogged about it today. I’ll email the links with my entry. Thanks Mary.

    Hi Mary!

I know it’s unacceptable to query with an unfinished fiction ms. How about for this contest - does it have to be complete to enter?

Your contest is giving me that push I needed to start my own blog on writing young adult fiction. I’m still trying to get it up and running but now I have another outlet for my own writing. Thanks!

Delighted you’re joining us on Twitter’s #scribechat on Thursday to answer questions from those wanting to submit to this terrific contest. Everyone’s excited about it!

Thank you, Mary, for this exciting opportunity. This contest is a wonderful idea! It’s as gratifying as it is rare for an agent to reach out to the writing community. I hope, in the not-too-distant future, you might consider speaking at one of our SCBWI conferences on the East Coast. So many of us would love to meet you in person! Thanks again.

  25. Ashley Cooper’s avatar

It always annoys me when I read questions that have already been answered. Then I re-read this post and realize I did just that. Oops! Looking forward to reading the winning beginnings and your take on what makes them great, Mary.

  26. Brenda’s avatar

I saw a post about your Kidlit contest on one of our Canadian writing forums so thank you not only for the contest but for requiring entrants to spread the word! Can’t wait to see the winning entries, too.

So, I jumped the gun and sent my entry before I told you where I posted my links in my email. Should I send you another email to tell where our links are posted, so you can make sure we really did this, OR. . .do you want me to put it here? SORRY!

Thanks for offering this contest. It’s a great opportunity and I’m excited to enter. I’m just having trouble signing up for live journal and haven’t received a confirmation email yet. Also, I posted the link in the comment section of my blog since I have no sidebar and I plan to post the link to the contest in the comments
sections of two of my friends writer’s blogs. I just wanted to make sure that’s okay.

    Ms. Kole,

I’ve been researching to see if we would be a fit, so it is nice that you are having a contest.

I’m qualifying and proofing my 500 words. I’m excited!

Thank you for putting on this contest.

  31. Kim’s avatar

I love the “tell two friends” requirement in order to enter. I found out about this through someone posting to a SCBWI discussion board, so it really worked for me!

    Thanks!

I put the word out on 4 SCBWI listservs - Los Angeles, Ventura/Santa Barbara, Orange County and the RA one. Can’t give you links to check those, but I do have other places I could post as well.

    Thanks for holding this contest!
